Class Descriptions

Below is a description of each of our classes:

  • Pre-Level Ballet/Tap Combo:

Creative Movement for Ages 2.5 to 4.5: Our Pre-Combo classes combine the styles of ballet and tap in a inviting, child-friendly setting. Students develop body awareness, rhythm, flexibility, coordination, and CONFIDENCE!

Through creative steps and engaging exercises, little ones gain beginner ballet and tap steps, terminology, and the basics of dance.

  •  Ballet:

Our carefully-paced classes make ballet enjoyable and accessible for students of all ages!

Levels I & II Ballet classes begin with training to practice proper body placement, warm and strengthen muscles, and build technique that is brought to the center. In the center, dancers work on adagio (slow, controlled movements that combine strength and flexibility), petit allegro (small, quick jumps that build speed and ease of motion), allegro (more dramatic movements that are a natural extension of petit allegro), and grand allegro (large, spectacular steps that us a combination of skills learned throughout class).

Levels III+: In our intermediate and advanced level classes, strength and flexibility training are incorporated to supplement technique. These classes are stepping stone to our Pointe class.

  •  Pointe:

Offered to advanced students only. Pointe technique is the part of classical ballet technique in which a ballet dancer supports all body weight on the tips of fully extended feet. Pointe work is performed while wearing pointe shoes, which employ structural reinforcing to distribute the dancer’s weight load throughout the foot, enabling the dancer to support all body weight on fully vertical feet.

  • Tap:

An original American dance form that lets you use your body as a rhythm instrument. With an emphasis on fancy footwork and sound, tap develops agility, musicality and stylized movement. You will study basic exercises and time steps that make tap so much fun.

  • Hip-Hop:

Hip Hop is an explosive, funky dance style that combines memory, coordination, rhythm games, and loads of energetic FUN! Come learn the latest dances!

By combining fast paced rhythms and movement exercises, your child will get an AWESOME workout without realizing they are breaking a sweat! We choreograph routines and learn the fundamentals of this funky dance style without sacrificing the joy of dance or the thrill of being a “hip” kid!

  • Acrobatics:

Acrobatics (a.k.a. “acro”) brings together the ground work and tricks of gymnastics with the rhythm and movement of dance. This class explores floor exercises, trampoline, work on various mats, and drills and skills to help students master tumbling elements including cartwheels, round offs, backbend kickovers, and more.

Each classes consist of gymnastics skills: warm-up, stretching, strength exercises and instruction on at least two events per day. Instruction may include floor skill, across the floor exercise, low balance beam,  and more.

After basic skills and
progressions are mastered, students begin learning lead ups to more advanced tumbling.
Lesson plans are used to monitor the progress of each student. This class is great for cheerleaders and athletes.

  • Contemporary:

Contemporary dance is an expressive style of dance. It has a strong ballet base and also combines elements of other dance genres, including modern, jazz, and lyrical.

Contemporary dance uses fluid movements and stresses versatility and improvisation – unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork and often perform in bare feet.

  •  Jazz:

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality. Performed to upbeat music, this type of dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.

To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.
